Diamond Indicator MInerals
Tiny crystals of chromium diopside and garnet collected south of Green River, Wyoming. Of major importance is the fact that some of the collected garnets are true pyropes. These true pyrope garnets are the only garnets which are found at the Earth's mantel. Finding pyropes on the Earth's surface is a good indicator that diamond crystals could have been forced through the same kimberlite pipe. Local ant hill gravel is processed through a sapphire sink device to separate the heaver minerals. Because garnet and diamond are high density minerals, they separate easily with this device.
